You Will Be Rejected

You will be rejected by a girl or boy you like, a teacher, a parent, a friend.

You will be rejected by an artist you admire, an audience you seek, a publisher you need.

You will be rejected by your child, your pet, your client, your boss.

You will be rejected by the person you need the most, when you need them the most.

You will experience perceived rejection, where none is intended but you feel it none the less.

You will even reject yourself.

You will be rejected regardless of how hard you work or how talented you are. No amount of attractiveness or money or connections will guard you from it.

You may be able to minimize it over time, by making your life so small, or yourself so big, that you diminish your chances. But you will still be rejected.

And it will hurt. You will want to hide, to lash out, to hurt the rejecter, to blame others.

But hurting other people won’t make them accept you. Blaming a broken system or society will do nothing to lessen the pain. 

How you deal with your rejections will determine who you are - like every other decision that you make.

Will your rejections drive you to be better? Try harder? 

Will you learn compassion, and to be kind when you reject others?

Will you let your rejections make you bitter and spiteful?

Will you be mean and thrust your criticisms(rejections) on people who don’t even engage with you?

You will be rejected. It will hurt. But you can deal with it. You’re going to have to.
